Hi I just purchased a 1991 850 and I have the phone but it is not attached. How do I get the piece out that has the 4 holes in it so I can attach the phone? I just want it there for show not to make it work. I am afraid to just pull up on the plastic insert and break it.
Thanks!!
Give me a call. I'm the big phone Guru in this community. I will help you out.

Mine used to have James Earl Jones come on and say "Welcome to Bell South". Not sure why "south" since I live in the north, but it was cool (I never actually hooked up the service). I used to say the car was so fancy they hired Darth Vader to do the phone and Stephen Hawkins to do the weather band. Too bad they are both out now.

Would be really awesome if there was some sim card plug in module to which we could connect the phone to current carrier networks.

I finally put together all the components for the original wireless version (Csi) of the phone (thanks Alec!) On Sunday, at the local car show, I was able to show it off. Not only does it light up, you can also hear the push button tones through the speakers in the car. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but it was a big hit at the show, especially for the younger crowd that have only seen a motorola flip phone (that's what this phone is minus the flip and badged BMW) in a museum.

Ah even more older version than I expected. That’s just cool.
Old carphones have a special place in my heart, but that’s a whole different story, but the reason I retrofitted the whole system 10 years ago and again 2 years ago when I got my other car.
