Orange engine symbol illuminated in instrument panel.

I Cannot determine in 2008, 528I, E60, Owners manual what the Orange engine symbol in the instrument display means.

Possibly it needs service; oil & filter change, brake fluid flush, etc. If it were red you would have a serious issue.

Get a BMW-Specific code reader (I use Carly) and see what it says.

I just got this recently. My mechanic said that it is usually an emissions issue, could be stuck valve. Because I had just filled the tank, they couldn't run tests on it, so they cleared the code. (Also, apparently, could be loose gas cap?) Anyway. They cleared it and it hasn't come back. They said sometimes the stuck valve unsticks itself and the problem is solved!

So they didn't retrieve the fault code before they cleared it?

^agreed hopefully the shop properly scanned the codes before clearing them.

I suggest to all my guys picking up a proper BMW diagnostic tool; app based like Carly and Carista, or tool based like the Schwaben BMW Scan Tool (LINK). These tools will allow you to scan the cars DME (computers) and see what is really causing the fault. If your a DIY type person they'll also save you tons of time (and parts sometimes) as they'll get much closer to the root issue than a standard code reader.

Sometimes my wife will tell me there have been some warning lights on in the dash . . . for a few days.
