E23 door stuck closed. Any insights?

Tonight the driver side door handle mechanism on my E23 seems to have broken. I opened the door just fine initially, drove to my destination, and upon parking, found that I could no longer open the door. I could pull the handle and it would partially unlatch the door, but not fully. This is the case with both the interior and exterior door handles. Now I have to enter the car through the passenger side.

Anybody else dealt with this issue? Could there be a lever or pully inside the door that needs lubrication or something? Thanks for any help

I don't have an answer but I have a similar door problem. Interested to see what the fix is.

Update: now the key won’t even turn to unlock the driver side door anymore, and when I try to unlock the other doors they unlock and then immediately switch back

I have a similar situation but can open from outside and inside if I open latch from inside. My problem is I ended up exploding and somehow able to pull out my driver side lock cylinder, any idea what I should do about this if I want to keep the same key to enter? my central lock system also failed, everything has to be opened from passenger door and inner trunk.

    Sorry for thread hijack.

I would say your best bet at this point is to go dukes of hazzard, weld the doors climb In and out through the windows.

I have 'heard' this is a somewhat common issue with E23, that the door latch/handle/lock mechanisms are prone to breaking, and I fear mine on the drivers door is close.
My key barely turns the lock, adn the handle sticks in the up position so that I have to manually put the door handle back down.
I've seen a couple of guys taking door lock/handle parts at the yard, telling me it was a common failure point. I know from owning E28 that BMW used some cheap pot metal on the lock/handle mechanisms, and there is no repairing them once they let go, replace only.
