840 Ci Sport. Exhaust options in the UK

    Hey guys,
I'm thinking of an exhaust mod.
The cats are rattling in mine (they are replacements, not the originals) and I'd like a little more soundtrack.
    What do you guys recommend
    Here's a picture

The general consensus is to keep the factory center resonator and change the mufflers at the rear of the car. Any tampering with the center resonator results in exhaust drone that is reported to be quite annoying.

I got a quote about a year ago from Powerflow in Bromley. Was about £800.00 however I never went ahead with it at the time. There is also a company on eBay in Romford who do a cat back for about £650. I am going to pop over there soon and see their work as I still need to do the exhaust

I thought the consensus was to ditch the centre resonator and replace it with an X-pipe?

If you remove the centre resonator you will increase the chance of getting drone at low revs - the resonator is there to reduce these low-frequency resonances!

No, cat-back is basically from after the cats, back.

As Tangcia stated "Cat back" is just that and does not include new cats

On 850s yes, or maybe, but on an 840CI it is a HELL NO! Droning will be unbearable. Note I have 3:64 rear differential which might change the shift points a bit.

I stopped driving my 840CI until I found a good condition center resonator and fixed the hypothetical over 100mph issue

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. I really wanted to achieve a more 'exotic' higher pitched exhaust note, something like what Maserati V8s have.

FWIW, when I had Magnaflow mufflers with the center resonator, I still had a very loud and obnoxious drone. It was gross.

I feel that way now (except with shitty eBay special mufflers). What diameter pipework did you have?
My car has the 's199a' option which is factory catless, and I suspect this would add to the drone.

Somewhere around 2 and change (inches). Only benefit was that it was light and didn't rust.

Happy with restock exhaust I got from the side of someone's house.

Agreed that it is still loud but not droning like crazy. The 840s without center resonator are unbearable! Literally hurt your ears.
