And you replaced both bulbs and they are not working?
Yes it is possible for both to burn out at once, while not very likely.

Start with the bulbs where else would you start, then connector wiring

The lights are all illuminating. No problem with them. Still, the dashboard indicator shows bulbs out on both sides. Jeez. Now it's getting tricky. Could there be a problem with my brake light switch?

Clean and tighten up brake light sockets.
Do you have any aftermarket additions to the car in the lights department?

Cheap bulbs will do this, IIRC they have to be the tin/gray color bottoms. If you get ones with the bronze/copper looking contact, then those will throw the "bulb out" light on the dash.

OK. Great tip! I'll try some Osram brand bulbs or get some from the dealer.

No mods except the heat sink on the bulb holder to dissipate heat. I have had that mod working for years. I'll clean the contacts and get some good quality bulbs and report back.
