    Stripping SSR Wheels

I have a used set of SSR wheels that I would like to paint gunmetal grey. I previously refinished a set of BBS Style 5 wheels (gunmetal grey centers/polished barrels and clearcoat)and used a marine stripper. It worked great.

So I assume there’s clearcoat on the SSRs. Since I’m going to paint the entire wheel I’m not worried about the original finish. In searching threads here I’ve seen references to a number of stripping products. Any recommendations for the SSRs?

Other than paint, what is the condition of the wheels? Is there any curb rash? What brand of paint will you be using? Wurth? You could use a scotch pad and rough up all surfaces as tge wheel’s details look sharp.

I bought some Jasco stripper and steel wool pads. I have Dupli-Color paint which I used previously on my Style 5’s. No curb rash or anything else which needs to be addressed.

I plan to put some stripper on a small area to see what happens.

That’s a good plan. You could put the stripper on the inside of the rim - that’s the part of rim you don’t see as its covered by the tire. Is the stripper ok for alloys? I’d see if Wurth makes a paint in that color or something close. Wurth is a top notch paint.

Any spray/brush on paint stripper should work. I'd remove the valve stem if you didn't already.
