    Radiator Options

    1982 735i 5 speed

The plastic radiator inlet tube broke off. Has anyone uncrimped the plastic tank and recrimped a new tank? What tool did you use? I have a new left side plastic tank.

Or, do you know where to find a reasonably priced replacement radiator (17 11 1 153 063), or a substitute radiator that fits reasonably well?

    Thanks

I'll check the one I have in my 5-speed parts car, although it's an '85. Is there any difference with later models? Now that I'm thinking about it, mine is pretty shabby. It's been repaired with plastic welding, but just for the mounting tabs. The radiator end tanks were never damaged & held pressure, I can re-test it if you're interested.

I am interested. Mine has two sensors on the right side for high speed and low speed cooling fan settings. Thanks

I'll get some pics tomorrow, hopefully the weather warms up a bit so I can pull & test it too.

I was able to find a radiator shop to replaced the plastic tank. They had to un-crimp the old tank, put on the new plastic tank and rubber gasket, and re-crimp to seal. I used Morris Auto Radiator in Worcester, and I would recommend them. They tested the radiator for leaks after installing the tank. The crimps on my radiator were pretty hefty teeth.

I bought the plastic tank from All Radiator Supply 562-663-1300. I used plastic tank BM-009 with gasket G-010. The gasket was not as beefy as the original one, but the tank did seal.

I think it was less than $20 for plastic tank and rubber gasket.

I retanked one a while back. Great option if core is solid. Their passenger tank is shit. It will not stop leaking at fan switches...so just retank driver.
    I make E23 parts.
