A month after purchasing a 2003 Z4 3.0L my radio died on me. I thought I would need a new deck, but after disconnecting the Amp everything went back to normal.
My radio was turning itself off and on, over and over again (every 5 seconds or so). I thought it was the deck, but issue is gone after disconnecting amp.
- Can I replace it with an aftermarket amp? Or do I need to spend the $400-$500 on getting a factory replacement amp? (I do not want to lose clarity/volumn/bass/etc)
- I do not know if I have the Carver Stereo or not, how can I tell? My deck says "Business CD" and I do not see Carver, or Harmon Kardon written anywhere.
- Do I need an amp with DSP?
I am currently driving around without music and want this fixed ASAP, but I do not want to weaken the system or replace something that doesnt need to be replaced.
I was about 1 minute away from purchasing a new (aftermarket) deck and luckily asked some questions that led to disconnecting the amp - the audio tech told me that since the problem went away after disconnecting the amp that replacing the deck would not have solved the problem.

I would guess if you have the 14 speakers system, it would be Carver?
Easy enough to pull the amp and check part numbers. Lot's of amps pulled from either complete audio upgrades or salvaged z4's out there.
Probably a shop out there that fixes your current amp as well.
If you do some research a few owners have found a way to keep the DSP feature with adding an aftermarket amp. I don't feel like doing the search right now. But it's there. Try Zpost.com as well
