    DME software update ,

    2001 325ci
Have rpm issues and having read a few threads it appears that a DME software is needed. How do I do this,?
Do I need a special cable and where do I download the software?

    thank you in advance

The first step in diagnosing an issue is to scan the engine computer (DME) for codes. You can’t update (“flash”) the computer as you don’t have the BMW-specific computer needed to do the job. You also don’t have access to the updated code. Only dealers and shops that pay BMW a ton of money annually can flash the DME.

Yup. In fact, i believe that the DME in facelift E46s has encrypted code.

To clarify - are we talking about update which you can do with WinKFP?
I flashed dde in face-lift e46 with K+DCAN cable so it is possible.

I don't think so that ista will be better. Maybe if you have icom, but if you are going to use some INPA cable better will be WinKFP.

A well equipped indie shop should be able to update the software, if you DME needs to be updated.

Since you are not familiar with process take it to either BMW or an independent shop you really trust. If the dme becomes corrupted due to messing around with its code that is a very expensive day for you.
