When I recently bought (for wifey) my 03 E53, I knew I would have to do the dying pixel fix for the MID radio screen whether that is fixing a ribbon cable or a junkyard head unit I'm not sure yet which fix I need...
However, by accident I ran across this replacement head unit that looks amazingly factoryish in appearance and gives more modern features. The one thing I tend to hate about touchscreens is that radio makers (OE factory type and replacement makers are both guilty) tend to forsake regularly used controls like volume and station tuning for using the touchscreen. If the picture is accurate, then this unit appears to be less of an offender, however I'm wondering about other drawbacks. It's probably a given that the functions of the MID display would probably be lost. Maybe not a deal breaker but loss of steering wheel remote button would be.
Bottom line question is... does anyone have experience with this unit and can you share your experience.

They also have another unit which is Android based (and slightly cheaper)
They claim steering wheel controls continue to work. I am very attracted to one of these unit but would love to hear from someone who has one. Some of the reviews on their site smell like a review shill.

Have a look at xoutpost.com in the e53 section. One guy has 38 pages dedicated to it. Apparently brilliant.

Hi,
I am really interested in one of the unit. This one is only $298. Is it really cheap, right? I am going to order one. What do you think? Is this a good choice?

Here's the 38 page thread. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ll-thread.html
I'm only on page 2, but will probably get one for the E53 and maybe for the E39 too.
