Took this 740 over from my brother.
Little history:
He bought a 740i with a bad body. Had been hit in the rear and the repairs done were quite bad. The whole car was resprayed in a dark grey and used by a funeral parlour, but it drove great.
A little while later he found the below 740i with a buggered engine but a much better body. We decided to swap engines etc and make one good car.
So...with the help of my father, we took the engine out
Front engine is buggered. We suspect it dropped a valve. Rear engine is perfect.
The previous owner managed to fry the wiring in the fuse box. Replaced the whole engine harness and most of the body harness.
Put some different wheels on:
Had found this Hartge kit quite some time ago. Did a little test fitting. The kit came off a long wheel base so will have to trim the side skirts:
The interior has been like this for ages:
Stripped out the rest of the carpet. Need to fix the heater core and some other stuff. Will be putting in a grey carpet and dye everything else black:
Started by stripping the grey dash and dying it black:
And that's where I'm at...work continues.

Wow! That is some awesome work! The sports seats look so good in an e32.
Uber what are you doing about the little black rubbers on bottoms of doors ? I’ve wondered about using e34 ones to color match skirts

@e30luv318i - Funny you mention that. For now I've put the black strips back. Tried a spare set of E34 door caps but they seem to be about 1cm short, either side of the door.
Put the chrome bumper trim back including some headlight washers. Also added a rear licence plate holder thingy.

That looks excellent! What did you use to lower it?
Not usually a fan of body kits but that looks great. What did you use for dye?
@Cactuar - had them compressed for now. It drives surprisingly well. Do plan to eventually get some H&Rs
@ Moroza - Thank you sir. I used RIT multipurpose dye for the carpet, plush leather dye for the seats and duplicolour vinyl and fabric for the dashboard.

Cars need maintenance, especially German cars, especially old ones. Their maintainers need maintenance, too. Maintenance budgets are finite, and when one is the custodian of what seems like half of the 20th-century BMWs in South Africa... with fairly high standards, at that... on top of full-time work with its own stress factors... on top of landlord issues... and on top of taking care of two (and a half?) human dependents... the maintenance budget gets stretched thin, and sooner or later, something has to give... ideally something other than one's skull, to the inertia of large rigid objects. Mr. Uber is alive and reasonably well, currently taking what seems to be a long-overdue and well-deserved mental health break of several days. Frankly, I'm impressed he's managed to get this far without one. I imagine he could use a kind word or two of moral support from anyone in the community. I imagine the rest of us, especially those with sizable fleets, could use a reminder of the importance of self-care. And if anyone has a shipping account, and/or significant experience with international shipping, with a company more reliable than UPS is proving to be, PM me please. Also requesting a PM from anybody with a lead on rear side window roller sunshades.
(Hang in there, buddy)
