    X1 vs X3 and 2017 vs 2018

So my beloved 2007 328i met its end in a 🦌 caused accident. (No animals or people were injured though!)

I LOVED the feel of driving that car, but have been finding it increasingly impractical from a size perspective. I am going to test drive later today but was interested in what folks here think of the X1 & X3. In particular I am interested in how longer term drivers find the performance / feel compares to the old hydraulic steering assisted 3 series. Also, curious about whether the changes made in the 2018 models merit paying more. (I'm leaning no)

I was given a 2018 x1 as a loaner today. I drive a 2015 328ix wagon. The x1 is front drive, dog slow, shifts like a chevy, steers like a Honda and is cheap everywhere. I’d recommend a crv over it any day.

I came to my 328 from a 2013 x5 and that suv redefined what an suv could be. I loved it and would have kept it but the airbag recall forbid me from purchasing it end of lease. So bmw can build an amazing suv. The 2018 x1 ain’t. Don’t know anything about the latest x3 but I’ve always found them disappointing.

Hope that helps. I’d strongly recommend a used rear drive something

2018 X3 is all new and very positively reviewed. Seems well worth it compared to the previous generation, which was very dated.

2018 X1 doesn’t have any big changes compared to the 2016-17 model years. I’d buy used and save money.

In terms of driving, my personal view is that people are a little silly with their expectations for SUV feel. The X1 drives nice with plenty of get-up, but certainly feels less sporty than the sedan. Based on reviews, the X3 is even better. I also dont pay any attention to the RWD purists if all you’re doing is driving around the city. XDrive is fine.
