This is the 7 series model with the legendary straight 6 cylinder petrol engine driving the rear wheels. This has the 2800cc, fuel injected petrol engine which some say was the best engine they put in these cars not just because of their reliability but also due to the improved fuel consumption over the larger engined models. This is a top of the range model with just about everything on it. It can be quite economical, depending on how you drive it of course. This is a very nice example which has not been molested in any way and has been very well looked after by my brother who was the previous owner for 10 years and by the owners before him. It is totally original and has not been customised with chrome arches or low profile wheels or blacked out windows like many others I’ve seen. There are not many nice original ones of these left. The specification includes:

• Climate control
• Central locking
• Grey Leather seats
• Electric driver and passenger seats with memory
• Electric mirrors
• Cruise control
• 4 speed automatic gearbox with sport, economy and manual change
• Car phone set-up

History
My brother owned this car for ten years. He bought it from Millstream, a BMW specialist. It was important for him to find a good example as he often took his kids to Cornwall on holiday so needed one from a good home. After much searching, he found the best one he could. He added this car to his collection of 4 cars so it’s not covered many miles at all in the last 10 years as can be seen by the MOT and service history.

Since then his children have grown up and have cars of their own now and he no longer needed a large car so now drives mainly a Saab convertible for a bit of fun. So the 728i has not been used much at all these last few years. I’ve always wanted an old 7 series and this summer we needed a “stop gap” car till my wife’s Volvo XC60 arrived, so I thought, why not buy it for us? We used it for a couple of months till her car arrives and it’s been great. But we now have 3 cars, plus a classic car in the garage and a motorbike so I’ve decided I have too many toys and best this one goes to somebody who will use it.

The Car
It is a lovely old battleship of a car from a bygone age. It’s probably got twice as much steel in it as it really needs but that’s how the Germans used to build cars in the 90’s! I would be happy to drive to the South of France in and back, knowing I would not have any problems with it.

The engine sounds lovely and smooth. They say these are bullet proof and it should easily do twice the 124K miles it’s clocked up in the last 20 years. These engines were hugely over-engineered and built by German engineers to last.

It drives really smoothly and quiet and is very luxurious. It’s currently on SORN. The MOT expires in December 2017 but I’m happy to put a new MOT on it for the buyer’s peace of mind as long as I we agree a price beforehand. It’s done less than 1000 miles since the last MOT so can’t see it’ll have any problems passing.

As you can see from the MOT history, my brother did very few miles since he’s had it given he’s been retired for some time and has had another 3 cars to use.

Mechanicals
In the 10 years of ownership, the car has never let my brother down. It has always started and run smoothly without any problems. It is fast and delivers effortless power from its 205HP straight six engine. The engine does not make any strange noises and uses no oil. The gearbox changes up and down as it should and the kickdown works as it should. Brakes are strong and the power steering works fine.

Climate Control
This car has climate control/Air conditioning although it will need to be regassed as in the summer, it was not that cold.

Bodywork
The paint is metallic silver (Aspen silver( with colour-coded bumpers, door mirrors and door handles. It was regularly cleaned and polished while my brother owned it as he’s a bit of a car nut. When I bought it this summer, I clay barred the paintwork (removal of all grime etc), polished and waxed it with good quality wax. It is nice and shiny with no faded areas. Being galvanised, the bodywork should not rust. Clearly, this is a 20 year old car and it does have the odd ding commensurate with its age and usage.

Tyres
It has Michelin tyres at the front which are more expensive than others but my brother didn’t skimp on this car. The rear tyres are almost new and although not a well known brand, they are heavy load tyres.

Interior
The leather seats are all unmarked and my brother regularly treated them with leather cream. Both the front seats are electric the driver’s one having memory settings. All the electric windows work as do all the other controls and radio/cassette which is an original BMW. The carpets are all in good condition and nice and plush. The roof lining is in near enough perfect condition as far as I can see. It has the footwell lighting which is a very nice touch

The lovely leather steering wheel has no wear on it as my brother had a protective steering wheel glove on it all the years he had it. The wood trim is real wood. It has the original stereo cassette radio player which you can hide behind a pull down wooden shutter.

In car phone
The car has a phone kit which must have been dealer fitted when new. It works with a NOKIA mobile phone which slots into the cradle. It is wired up with a microphone and has an external speaker. It also has a handset which you can use like a normal phone. Depending on the price agreed, I may also provide the NOKIA phone which fits in the cradle. All you need is a SIM in it and you’ve got a fitted car phone!

Manuals and Documents
It comes with the owners’ manual and service booklet in the original BMW leather wallet which is as new. Also old MOTs showing the mileage is genuine. V5 is in my name at my home address.

Other
The car comes with two ignition key which double up as the remote locking/alarm fobs. The alarm works fine. The car will be washed and vacuumed before being handed over. Any inspection is welcomed and encouraged as I am sure this is a very straight car with no major issues.

Points to note:
This is a solid, reliable and unmessed with 728i in good, but not concours condition.

I am asking £2749 for it which I think is reasonable given we know it's been looked after, mileage, service history and condition. You can probably find cheaper ones but will they be as good as this? Bear in mind it has only done 124,000 miles which is an average of just 6200 miles a year plus one owner the last 10 years

Viewing
The car is located in Sunbury on Thames, Surrey TW16. But please, serious enquiries only and no silly offers. I don’t need to sell it and am happy to keep it as it’s appreciating more than money in the bank given the current interest rates. You can also see the condition by the many pictures I’ve put on a picture sharing site which I can send you the link to on request.

We all lead busy lives so please, only contact me if you're a genuine buyer who is serious about buying such a car.

Thanks for looking
