I have an 01 530i, just clicked 135k miles. Car runs good, fuel economy not so good but that doesn't bother me too much. Recently the alternator died, while I was diagnosing/replacing the alternator I tried switching on/off the engine while working under the hood and noticed a whooshing/sucking sound a couple seconds after the engine is turned off. I replaced the CCV and assorted hoses about 30k miles ago, could this be another failing CCV?
My 525 does that some times I think it might be the disa valve
I don't think so. All three of my 530is have done this, and I've never done anything with the CCV. Rebuilding the DISA didn't change it, either. I suspect its a vacuum reservoir somewhere sucking in air. I wouldn't worry about it; I've done 81,000 miles between all of them and never had a failure that I could trace back to this noise.

Sounds like nothing is wrong with your car. That's just normal. At idle you have less than atmospheric pressure inside the intake manifold (past the throttle body), but when you shut the engine off it equalizes the pressures before and past the throttle plate. Hence, the 'whooshing' sound you hear everytime you shut it off. You probably notice it more with the hood being opened than it being closed.
I wonder if the IAC/ISA/ICV has anything to do with it.

sounds like your flux capacitor is running low on plutonium
Video? / Sound-clip?
Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …
Pretty normal, especially if it has an aftermarket intake.
If you're referring to the key off "whoosh" suction noise from the intake.
Cheers

The ICV/DISA/CCV are either cleaned, replaced or upgraded. Browsing realoem, I did notice this "Sucking Jet Pump" which happens to be tucked away in the general area where the sound was coming from. Looks like it has 2 hose connections, 1 toward the F connector on the MAF boot/elbow, the other to the underside of the intake manifold. Does anyone know what this thing does? Is it possible that it's leaking from old age and making this noise?

That's the brake booster check valve, which ensures that when engine vacuum is low (such as at high RPM, high load) (i.e., when the fuel economy gauge reads 8mpg) you still have plenty of assist for the power brakes.

You're right about the function (ensuring plenty of boost when vac is low) but it's purpose isnt really a check valve, it's a venturi vacuum amplifier kind of apparatus. Some speculate it's overkill and not really necessary, but I'm not sure how deleting impacts pedal feel. My guess is most of the time you wouldn't notice it but maybe on heavy extended breaking you'd find you ran out of assist?
