95 325is Injector 6 stuck open DME related

    Hello everyone!

I'm a fairly new 325is owner and have been reading all over but this will be my first time posting. I tried to search and couldn't find anything, possible my search term wasn't the best so I figure I'll go ahead and ask. When I received my 325is it had a misfire in cylinder 6. We troubleshooted and found the injector is stuck open and drenching the cylinder and we traced the issue to the DME. We then found the DME has one of those ebay performance chips in it, is it possible that chip is the cause or is just the DME bad? I just find it strange that it's only effecting 1 injector and not all six. If putting a oem chip in it will fix it, that would be greatly preferred over having to go through the process of replacing it and dealing with EWS II issues that comes with it.

If you need any more information aside from what I described above just let me know!

If wanted or needed. my DME part numbers are:
    Bosch: 0261200413
    BMW: 1744698

    Car is 1995 BMW 325is manufactured 09/95

Additionally, if it is just a bad DME and the chip is likely fine, could I just get another DME from a junk yard matching the above part numbers, pop that chip in to it and do the EWS bypass? Or get the Red/Maroon label DME from older e36's?

Maybe you first test the fuel injector directly, see here: How to Test a Dead Injector, Checking the Injector Controlling Circuit https://axleaddict.com/auto-repair/H...Simple-Methods

Already tested it, and even swapped injector 6 with injector 1 just to be sure.

    The chip is:
    AutoThority Performance Eng.
    B325$715.JOC

    Well, I found this:

Seems to answer my questions about DME Swaps and EWS issues. Was a pretty good watch! kudos to the owner of the video if he's on these forums.

Still leaves my question on if the Autothority chip could be the cause.

I would check all the wiring under the hood.

Actually I would pull the dme and open it all up and check for oxide tracks, more likely there is a short in the dme. The DME is known to get wet because the cowl drains clog, so it could be as simple as a heavy rain storm or even just washing the car.

As a followup, I replaced the DME with a red label. All is well and she is running beautiful!

You might want to consider upgrading the cowl drains to prevent the dme from getting flooded in the future and causing this to happen again.
