    Running rough Fault Code help

I noticed the car was running a bit rough a few weeks ago and now it shakes at idle and is not running smooth. I have a Peake r5/fcx3 code/reset tool. I checked the codes and it says random misfire and then has a another code that says misfire on cylinder #3. I got to the spark plugs and there is definitely a bad leak on the valve cover gasket and oil is pooled around the spark plugs. I spent time soaking up any oil surrounding the spark plugs BEFORE removing them. After removal I inspected them for fouling on the tips. Not a single plug was wet. I replaced the spark plug on cylinder #3 and cleaned up the others.... Didn't work same error. I also swapped the coil packs with a different cylinder and that did not work and still had the same error code. Any ideas?

Did you clear the error codes after changing the plugs? If not the cylinder misfire with fuel shutoff code will continue to shut down that cylinder until the codes are cleared.

Nvm I am dumb forgot to try switching the coil packs AFTER resetting. I swapped the coil on #3 to #1 and now the code has changed. So I will get a coil. Should I just replace the individual one or replace them all at once?

Just one, unless you want to spend a lot of money.

Occasionally, swapping just one may not do the trick. Depending on the brand of coil, the differing resistance value may create a problem with the other coils next to it. Getting the same brand will stop this problem. I have not had an issue with the generic brand from Autozone when I changed one of them. When I put two of them side by side, they caused a rough idle. When I separated them, all was fine. Can't go wrong with OEM Bremi, if thats what is in the car now.

I need my car so I called my local bmw dealer (otto's of west chester). They had the bremi verson and they told me $100. I got a ride and made the 30 min drive only to have them tell me suddenly it was $150. Bullsh** I got it on oembimmer parts for $70 including overnight shipping. Thank you for all the help I will see how it turns out.

Car runs great. One last question I noticed when I was putting the plastic cover over the engine the long rubber gasket is missing on the passenger side. How crucial is that? Sorry I don't know why it inverts my images.

Not important at all on the rubber, unless you're OCD and must have everything just so. Find one in a junkyard near you and take the rubber from that one if you really want it on there. If the entire cover is better looking on the junker, take that.
