2007 Z4 ABS Module

I do not know whether to laugh uncontrollably, cry hysterically or just roll the old girl over the cliff. All the ABS and Brake warning lights are on. Took it to shop thinking one of the wheel sensors had gone bad as happened once previously.

Not so this time, Paleface! Shop claims the central ABS module needs replaced. Parts and Labor an eye-watering, totally sickening $4500! Car has 64,000. I have clothes old enough to vote; I am not rough and tough on things. Had an old E30 that I bought new and sold with 175,000 miles on the original clutch.

My question (finally!) is this: Anybody ever had a false positive on this? In other words, were you told that your car needed this but it really did not? I just wonder if my problem is some type of sensor with a short and not the unit itself.

The symptoms have also been related to the battery, so check that first.

Having said that, in my case replacing the battery did not help and I had to pay up for a new ABS module in the end.

+1 on check the battery first. If the module is actually bad a used part with matching numbers should work for a fraction of the cost of new. If your local shop has BMW software they will probably be able to do an install procedure to link it with the engine module the same as putting in a new one.
