    1994 BMW 316i

Hi,I have a 1994 BMW 316i. It has 181,000 miles(289,600km) on it. Head gasket never changed, same clutch and gearbox from new. The only replacing were usual things, wheel bearings, joints and water pump. The engine doesn't burn a drop of oil. I was told the e36 316i was meant to have a weak engine or soft engine as he put it. How much longer does my engine have I wonder? Has anyone got a similar model with more milage out there?

They probably were referring to it's power output, not that the car would not last. So drive it and have fun!

I'd say the engine would be doing pretty well if it's had regular oil changes and hasn't been treated poorly (ex. constant rev limiter). The clutch is something though that may need to replaced if it's not doing well.

Yes I changed oil every 6k miles since I bought new 23 years ago,the clutch is is still working well,no slipping no whirring of release bearing. It will eventually go someday inevitably but it sure is a lot of miles on one clutch :-)

I think he meant it they couldn't take much hardship,I do maintain engine well but over the years I have driven it hard and revved out many times,if the engine did pack in at this stage, the car owes me nothing :-)
