Searched for a few hours but haven't seen the exact same problem other than a Utube vid.
Car starts fine after sitting overnight or several hours but repetitive starts in a short period are an issue.
Not ambient temperature related. Almost sounds flooded and has a run-on starting episode as well.
Seems the only way to get it started is by stepping on the gas pedal therefor shutting off the supply.
Starts every time but with several attempts and by using the gas pedal method.
The Utube vid I found tonight said replace the fuel relay.
Any insight appreciated! Fairly new to the car but have rebuild and owned over 30 Foreigns's.
This second owner Gem has 105K on it and am just getting around to going through the whole vehicle.
Cheers,
Ever find the solution to this?

No, not yet. I'm going to look at it over the next few days and will post!
Well found the issue. Seems to be quite common. It's the fuel relay located in the rear hatch. Just lift up the insert above the little storage space on the passenger side and lift up the insulation. You will see a small green relay pinned into the frame around the tail lens area. I ordered a new one from Amazon ($22) . There are several responses on amazon about this problem and solution. Funny thing is I unplugged it and put dielectric grease on the connections and the problem stopped immediately! So at least I have a spare if it acts up again.
Easy Peasy fix.
