Hi,
I'm really a newby with BMW. I have an 07 325 that occasionally will blow out white smoke. Tail pipe is as clean as my Merc C43. I'm not driving this car, but have not been able to repeat it to start smoking. It has happened during FWY driving as well as slow side street driving. It goes away, but has come back a number of times. I have not been able to get a real answer on how long it smokes for.
Guys, any ideas?
White smoke is a sign of water. It could be merely condensation in the exhaust or it could be coolant getting into a cylinder or cylinders. I’d monitor the coolant level by checking it every few days. Make sure you check the coolant when the engine is cold. Also, try to squeeze the top radiator hose when the engine is cold. If it’s easy to squeeze the head gasket is likely ok. If it’s hard to squeeze the head gasket could be bad.
