Hi Guys,
So yesterday I discovered that my battery was dead. At the same time I realized that id left my drivers seat door unlocked (It was closed, but the lock thing was in the upward, or unlocked position). I assumed that me leaving it unlocked somehow drained the battery because the car hadn't told itself that I was gone.
I wired another fresh battery that I had in the garage to the jump points in the engine bay, to see if I could get the car to start, and I kept hearing the fuel pump "priming" every once in a while once I did this, but did not pay any attention to it. Car wouldnt start, but the locks worked and I could at least open the trunk to get to the battery. Decide to pull battery and see if I could charge it up on my trickle charger and see if that would fix the problem.
Fast forward to today, battery is charged and holding its charge when sitting unplugged and idle just fine (wanted to make sure battery wasn't screwed). Plug it back in, car starts fine. But now I'm hearing the fuel pump prime every minute and fifteen seconds, even when the car is locked and the key is well outside of comfort entry proximity(they're in my room 60ft and four walls away). Why would my fuel pump be continuously priming, this seems to be why the battery drained, and how do I get it not to do that?
Thanks in advance.
Leaving the car unlocked won't cause the battery to be run down. A running fuel pump will.
A faulty ign switch could leave some items powered up. Are you certain it's the fuel pump you are hearing?
I personally had a similar scenario with an E36 a while back. The cause of mine was a wet DME(nice place for it, Hans!) that ran the pump until the battery died, also filling the cylinders with fuel.
I suggest you disconnect the battery while the car isn't being used for that reason until you find the fault.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
This car has a fuel pump module. There is a fair bit of activation being done if that module is activating the fuel pump.
First, I have to ask if you're absolutely sure that what you're hearing is the fuel pump.
If it is....and even if it isn't, really, you're going to have to get the car to a good BMW specialist shop, or the dealership. Has your car had the Junction Box recall performed? If not, this might be the root cause of strange electrical gremlins.
Whatever's going on, fuel pump or otherwise, you really need to get the car to a BMW pro who can connect it to a BMW computer and see what your car thinks is wrong.
