Window Regulator Issue

Driver's side window decided it didn't want to go up, so popped the door panel and found this (pic).

Can I re-route the cable as it doesn't appear to be broken, or does this mean a new regulator?

Hello - I would try to fix it, but in case you do need to replace the regulator; I'm attaching a link to the procedure below.

I already removed it and it wasn't that bad. Believe me, there are worse jobs on these cars! Next step is pulling the regulator and trying to figure out what the hell happened, then fix it if possible.

What sucks is, I have '97 528i parts car, but the regulators don't match (of course).

the cable has come out of that tab you see in the middle of your picture. It should be behind it and slide when window moves. I had same issue. I had to replace the regulator. I could put the cable back and window would work a few times and then it happens again. i think the cable gets stretched. Yur obviously capable of fixing it but I would be prepared for new regulator soon

This is a good time to consider replacing the door lock actuator too, while its open. just say'n

I saw the plastic guide, it's broken. I'm looking at replacement.

The door lock actuator was already on the list cause it's toast...
