Hi all, I'm new here but been lurking for some time and I did search a lot but can not really find what I am looking for, so I hope someone can help.
First of all I recently bought an E39 523i and I believe it is 2000, here in Thailand you can never be sure, book say 2002, but it doesn't have OBD2, have steptronic so I am guessing 2000.
Passenger light(driver side for most) does only flicker on for a fraction of a second. driver side is very weak even after changing bulbs. Angel eyes not working and turn signal stays on instead of passenger side light. High beams looks better but i am sure they could be even better. Adjusters are broken and the plastic mounts on the light housings are broken so it is hard to mount them. So to start there are there housings to buy or whole set without anything else, just as I seen Depo covers.
Also the wires to the lights, they don't look that great, can they be changed easy or does a whole harness need to be changed.
For the weak and not working lights I have to guess it is the ballasts, is there a way to check them ??
Thinking of putting in LED for the angel eyes and possible bi-xenon EVO's. Any comments to that ??
There is so much to be done to this car so I am sure you guys will see me here a lot, so please be gentle I am still learning
Thanks
The only way to test the ballasts is by trying a known good one.
You may also have problems with the light control module, located in the right side, behind the kick panel.
I believe you have the newer style LCM, which is essentially non-repairable.
So, you do not have the 16-pin connector at the bottom of the dash? Not sure where it's mounted on right-hand-drive models; On LHD models, it is to the left of the steering column, towards the bottom of the dash, under a door marked "OBD."
Do you have the 20-pin connector on the top of the right-side wheel well?

Hi and thank you, I will check the light module. Don't think I have the newer style as they came out later.
Yes Euro had OBD2 after 2001, and yes I have the round one.
Have a million issues to deal with on this car, but one thing at the time
