I removed the HK amp from my E36 and in that same area I found what looks like a plug that is not connected to anything. Anyone know what this is? (last photo is upside down)

Crap I forgot what it’s called but that’s normal. Those wires are all grounds. Every e36 has that.

It's called a comb connector and is where various wires of the same color are spliced together. These are all over the car (and the whole fusebox under the top layer is full of these) and is what you use when properly retrofitting stuff. Aka not splicing in existing wires, cutting, hacking, sawing.
You just find the comb connector with the color you need, and you take your new wire with a spade connector and simply slide it onto the comb. Sometimes all 'teeth' are taken. You can unplug all spades and insert a comb with more 'teeth'.
