2007 335xi E90. Recently the suspension has developed a subtle knock or rattle. I'm 80-90% sure it's coming from the rear left, possibly the front left. It mostly happens during braking or compression braking, sometimes during gentle acceleration. Occasionally on bumps. Happens in drive or in neutral, speed of rattle is unrelated to engine speed or wheel speed. If I were to guess based on my experience with other cars, I'd say a broken or loose sway bar end link, but I'm new to BMW. Any typical problems I should be looking for when I get under there?

Up front when the control arm bushings start to fail knocking sound like your describing are very common, I'd start by inspecting them. If it turns out they have failed, we have all the parts you'll need! LINK to the goods.
Thanks. Turned out it was just a loose trim flap knocking around and/or a rock knocking around in the belly trim panel. Cleared those, all good now. Looked over end links & control arms while I was under there, all is well.
