My '94 740i just recently started having a strange vibration/shudder when hitting the brakes while backing up. Yesterday she got new front pads and rotors, but that didn't fix it. Next up will be pulling the rear wheels to inspect pads and rotors back there. Any ideas on what to look for? CV joints perhaps? TIA!
It could easily be control arm bushings. When they have play you can get cavitation. Similar to driving forward at certain speeds and getting vibration. Generally you can kick the tires and see if they have play or bounce around too much. On a rack is better.

Front or rear could cause it. But if you really feel its the rear end, check out the "dog bones". When they fail the rear stability goes to crap. The part is also called a pitman arm. 33321125665 bavauto may still have the best price for Lemforder.
