    HVAC Not Working

I've my 2005 300i for a few years now and I now the auto heat/climate control seems to be going out.
It actually happened last year but I didn't fix it.

The auto climate doesn't work; it started acting up last year where the fan (blower motor i think) speed went up and down like it was trying to work but something was telling it to not and it went back and forth til it settled at the lowest setting, no hot air tho. I changed the blower resistor last year thinking that might help but didn't do a thing.

It's getting cold up here in NY and the auto heat doesn't work automatically. I actually start getting hot air after I've driven the car for over 30 mins and it only happens if I go over 60. Really weird. No over heating or low coolant. If I manually set the speed of the fan on high, it blows but only cold air. So the blower motor is not the issue.

TLDR: I have the temp at 78, temp wheel on 3 red dots, auto climate on and I don't get hot air and the fan stays at the lowest speed. I get hot air/fan speeds up after 30 mins of driving or so and only if I've gone over 60 mph. Changed blower resistor and nothing. The outside temp is 58 now.

One way to test the heater valve is to pull the connector off. This will see the valve to full open with no power going to it. If this works then I would look at replacing the heater valve, and if it doesn't, how old is your waterpump? Have you ever had the system flushed out?

Thanks. I had the system flushed and replaced about 2 years ago. The water pump its probably 6 years old. I suspected the heater valve but was scared of touching it. I don't have a garage.

I was thinking it was the IHKA unit giving up. I suspect the small fan inside is not working anymore and the cabin temperature sensor is not getting a reading thus throwing the whole system to the lowest setting. I'm not sure if this makes sense. Any thoughts?

Like I noted, the easiest thing to do is to unplug the heater valve, takes just a minute to do.

As for the IHKA going bad, typically you will hear the fan. What it does is pull the air into the panel, to see what the current cabin air temp is. If there is low airflow across the sensor and the cabin is cold, it should be putting more heat into the cabin, not less. I hope that makes sense to you, have you tried to vacuum it out?
