What is the correct procedure to remove and adjust the oil pump when re-installing? I could not find anything in the online manuals.
There appears to be 3 attachment points; 1 x nut on rear, 1 x nut on front, 1 x bolt on front.
Do I need to remove the sprocket?
I plan to dismantle, inspect and clean it. Are there any gaskets I'll need to replace when doing so?

Some debris in the oil pickup... a broken washer (both half's) and a small piece of silicone gasket sealer. 3 x M6 bolts with broken washers in total... the other 2 were found in the oil pan.

You don’t need to remove the sprocket. I’m not sure whether or not the internals are serviceable.
You should adjust the chain according to spec though. Do a search for the bmw spec, but I think it’s 10mm of play. But please don’t take my word as I am going purely by memory.

This turned out to be very easy...
Remove the oil pump by removing nut and sprocket then 2 x nuts and one bolt. It will then be loose and held in place by 2 short metal tubes, just need to pull on these and it will pop out. Chain slack was ~ 11mm on mine and I believe the adjustment spec is 10mm (easily adjusted).
No gaskets in the pump, it's a dual stage design and comes apart very easily by removing several 10mm bolts. There are only 2 x O-rings to replace on the large and small oil pipes (and most likely 2 more in the engine block). The inside of this pump looks to be in perfect condition (has only 65K mi). I did not dismantle the pressure valve yet as it is under spring tension and may be difficult to re-assemble.... I need to figure out a safe way to do this first.
I'll clean everything up then re-assemble.
