Hi All,
I just completed a 5600 mile road trip in my 2001, 280K 740i! Pa to NM.
We went to the Trinity Site, White Sands National Monument, El Paso Zoo, Big Bend National Park and the Nashville Zoo.
The car performed flawlessly despite a fuel pump failure 3 weeks prior to the start and an alternator failure 2 days prior to the start.
Got home on Friday and I had to go back out but, it now cranks but won't start ((. I'll diagnose it this week, thinking the aftermarket fuel pump may have failed, maybe the crank sensor, I didn't have it in me to check it out this weekend.
Great trip, love driving cross country in these cars, this was my 8th big road trip, 3 in the '01 and 5 in the '00.
Highly recommend driving and not flying, there is so much to see in this country that can't be enjoyed from an airplane.
Thanks for reading,
Tom

The 00 740i is 6spd? Did you do the conversion? Is this a 540 6spd?

Great to hear of your trip. Love road trips in these cars. Canada is on my list next.

Awesome feat! My E38 regularly saw 500 mile weekends but I have always wanted to do a NYC to Grand Canyon and Yosemite run.
Should post pics of the attractions =)
Some of us don't get to take great vacations...so we do it vicariously through those fortunate enough that can. Where's the pics? Now, I'm sad...based on the thread's title...I thought I was going to get a little "mental vacation".
