Doing a head gasket on my m52 b28
I have a s50 euro flywheel
It has no flywheel locking holes
How screwed am I?
I have it a tdc
Marking the cam gears with paint
Hopefully she goes well
I’m surprised there is no crank index.
What are trying to do?

Are you sure there is no hole? Rotate the crank and have some one with a screw driver at the hole putting light pressure on the flywheel to see. Alternatively use an inspection camera.

If you look at the images with the part # on google and compare them to the m52 there is no locking hole. I believe the euro locks from the front like the s54.
I have a stage 3 flywheel that has no TDC hole.
I just reinstalled vanos without locking the flywheel with no problem. I also installed cams as well
check the TDC indicator regularly and you should be good.
It takes a lot more force to rotate a crank than it does to rotate a camshaft with a wrench

More fun
Lower chain guide broke when removing the head.
I guess now the timing cover is coming off
Timing cover develops a leak over time so think of it as an opportunity. Be aware that the front oil pan bolts go into the aluminum of the timing cover and not to over tighten, they can strip.

No big deal on the flywheel lock. Have not had one since 2009 and have had engines and cams in and out. Use TDC mark on front cover with mirror at angle.
Front cover has bolts through head from top and through pan from bottom. I broke a guide about 10 years ago. Not that big of a deal to fix.
