If you have done this, you know exactly what my issue is. The top nut is sunken in to the top mount, so you can't get an open end wrench around it, and you have to use a hex too in there to keep the shaft from spinning.
I was able to tighten the bolt by using some big needle nose pliers to hold the nut while I used a socket to turn the hex. Not sure if I will be able to torque it down like that though.
There must be a better way to do this.

You make your own tool. You take a socket for the large nut and grind two flats so you can use an adjustable wrench on the flats. Smaller driver will fit inside the larger.
Wrong way to do this is to use vise grips to hold the piston.
