    Asbestos in head gaskets?

    Hi,

I am performing a head gasket change on my BMW Z3 1.8 (m43 engine) from 96.

Realised now when scraping off old gasket on the block that I read somewhere that gaskets used to be made out of asbestos amongst otherwise things (however that article seemed to cover cars from the 50s and 60s).

Do not know if this goes for the m43 engine as well, but I thought I might just ask in case anybody knows or has reflected upon this before?

    BR
    Alex

Asbestos use is banned in Germany since 1993.
