Just as stated, this is my first N63 engine... I'm curious as to how much oil is "within spec" for it to burn. I drive the car daily and don't baby it either, it gets opened up at least once a day...
Looking for some real world responses vs what the dealer thinks is "within spec"!
You first. How much does yours burn?

I just bought a 2010 550i GT with 66k miles. Burning about 1qt every 500 miles. I can't tell if its ridiculous or "normal". SA told me to expect 1qt per 1000-2000 miles.
If it matters, mpg is within spec 16.5 combined. No engine issues that I can tell, but then again Ive never owned 400hp before.
Our family has '09 and '11 F01s with N63s, both with just under 50k miles.
The '09 does burn a little oil, but is driven infrequently so it's difficult to gauge the burn rate. I would still say it's less than a liter between oil changes (every 5k miles). I can't remember the last time I had to top it off.
The '11 doesn't appear to burn any oil. Again with oil changes every 5k miles.

I may have spoken prematurely...
Turns out the '09 is burning a liter roughly every 1k miles.
After driving the '11 about 250 miles over the holiday, the oil level indicator dropped about half a liter (not that I genuinely believe the oil level indicator). My gues is that the colder temperatures and highway miles contributed a bit. This is the first time I've seen it drop from "full" since owning the car 2 years, 20k miles.

Try using the 10w60 m oil it will help
This is a known problem and design flaw in this engine that I think was fixed for 2013 or 2014 model years. About 4 years ago I almost bought a sub 20K miles 2011 Deep Sea Blue 750i. It was a great deal. After talking to another BMW dealer, not the one trying to sell me the car, he explained the problem they had with these cars burning oil (if I remember right it had something to do with the Turbo set-up). Sometimes BMW would "upgrade/fix" the problem. I can't remember the details. I do remember the dealer told me it was fixed in either 2013 or 2014 models.
