    Optional Fuel Pumps?

My son wants to install a fuel cell on his 82' 320i with the mechanical injection. The fuel pump looks very old and I told him to look at replacing it until I saw the prices....
Question: Is there any reason he cant go with an aftermarket 70psi fuel pump? The factory dual pump setup seems cheesy and expensive.

    Thanks

$105 for a Bosch replacement seems reasonable to me

If it works, it should be okay. Mine has been loud for the past 15-20k miles, but hasn't given me any issues.

You definitely have to shop around. Some people seem to think they are worth their weight in gold.

    Thanks all for the feedback.
Thinking of going with a higher flow FP, I'm assuming that any extra fuel will bypass the distributor back to the fuel cell.

    Cool

Since the earlier post, I'm now running Bosch Turbine Fuel pump-69430 which is the newest tech on the market with added advantages over old tech fuel pumps , to get higher fuel pressure to the fuel injectors before gas return thru the fuel pressure regulator one adds shim(s) to the pressure regulator in the Fuel Distributor-see faq's-also take into consideration enrichment/lean cycles and its effect on fuel pressure to the fuel injectors, Hayg is a cheaper option, I recommend Bosch 69430 and FCPEuro-with lifetime warranty. Its your choice.

Heres my post on this in case you all missed it.
