M60 with updated water pump / thermostat

    Hi,

Did M60B40 equipped 540i cars ever come with these water pumps http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/11510007043 ? (3rd nipped for expansion tank hose) vs the older style without 3rd hose outlet ?

Reason I am asking is http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/11531720173 thermostat housing and http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/11531702279 thermostat does not fit the 043 pump .

Even though autohaus shows these 3 if you select as 95 540i, these 3 parts don't play along.

It appears that 043 water pump would require this style thermostat/housing - http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/11531437526 because the thermostat side of the water pump is flat and does not have a ridge or recess for the o-ring.

Can someone confirm this, or point me to another thermostat / housing that fits the 11 51 0 007 043 pump?

    Thanks much!

you ordred the wrong part, 043 only fits E31 M60 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxref?q=11510007043

Shogun - Nice! I am going to take a look at the E31 M60 stuff then I really basically want a water pump with 3 hose outlets. I am using a rear water accumulator pipe out of M62 with 2 heater core hose outlets only, and would like to run the expansion tank to the water pump directly. This is in e30 chassis ,not much room behind the engine and that's the reason for trying to keep the water hoses to a minimum at the back of the engine and lots of room ion the passenger side of the engine bay vs driver side for expansion tank.

According to realoem for e31 m60 - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_4895 thermostat housing 11531720173 and thermostat 11531702279 or 11531729720 would work with 043 water pump but obviously they don't ?

What thermostat housing and thermostat works with 043 pump on E31? If I use autohausaz and select 1994 840ci I end up with these
    water pump - http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/11510007043
    thermostat housing - http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/11531720173OE
    thermostat - http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/11531702279

Obviously that's wrong, that housing / thermostat does not bolt up to 043 pump.

Looks like the rear pipe I am using is the same as on E31 M60 - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_4845

Old 540i pump with 2 outlets and recess for o-ring and works with thermostat housing 11531720173 and thermostat 11531702279 or 11531729720
    vs.
New 11510007043 pump where you can see it's got a flat surface on the thermostat side.

Shogun - can you confirm what thermostat housing/thermostat fits http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxref?q=11510007043 ? I don't care if it's 5/7/8 series M60. Is there something other than 11531437526 that would fit ? It seems 11531437526 is for newer M62 as it's got a coolant sensor built in, did the E31s use that?

    Thank you!

these should fit based on realoem, but that you have to confirm, this is not a standard car where I can check in realoem.
06 Cover11531720173 (option would be aftermarket alu housing from Uro for example instead of the plastic housing) I have a Uro alu t-stat housing in my E36 M3, works)
07 Thermostat 85CEL 11531729720 or if you want 95 degree C, see the number in realoem.

I purchased an aluminum 173 cover and it's not designed for the 043 pump as the surface of the 043 pump where thermostat would sit is flat , take a look at the picture I posted above

So, if you are saying 043 was only used on e31 , I am trying to figure out what housing / thermostat they used then ?

Something like this here is what I am looking for http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Water...xZpeto&vxp=mtr. You see it's got the recess so it will take the regular thermostat with o-ring and will work with 173 cove and does have the 3rd water outlet. What would the BMW OEM part number be for such a pump ?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Water-Pump-w...RZFezU&vxp=mtr

Looks like 11511742517 is what I am after ?

I have my doubts the autohaus PLUS realoem are wrong, but check with this one http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog
you can play all combinations, paste the part numbers into search by part number and all will be shown , then use the part number with google search for pics to check again.

    example 11510007042 http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/11510007042
and then it shown you which model, so for example we go to E32 740 and it shows you which t-stat housing cover fits http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E3...stat#0007042_1
    Cover 11531720173
then you can play with that number the same game: used on E34, E32, E39, E31 http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/11531720173 with pump no........

so select the pump you want and search by it's part number and the t-stat cover will be shown you need for it.

And check if there is an O-Ring or a gasket. For example on E36 they once changed from gasket to o-ring.

Answered in the e32 section, but I've gone through ordering the parts and clearly can see what pump the 526 / 173 style thermostat and cover works with

Yeah, so I spent a couple of hours really looking at different configurations and it seems that BMW used various pumps on OBD1 M60B40 engines over the years between the 5/7/8 chassis, some spanned between OBD1 and OBD2 years/cars between M60 and M62 cars even!

I have another pump on order, and I think I've found the one that has the 3rd outlet AND is for the OBD1 style thermostat housing. Will update once I confirm.

Got the right water pump today, this one allows for usage of obd1 thermostat/housing with o-ring and has the 3rd outlet for expansion tank on passenger side. First pump I got didn't have the 3rd outlet, 2nd pump had the outlet but the thermostat housing side was flat and really was meant for OBD2 cars with the thermostats with temp sensors on them.
