This is my 99 M3 vert. I'm coming from a 1996 turbo miata drift car, which I still have, enjoying the BMW so far.
First event with the car. Took it easy to get a feel for everything, the wet conditions made things interesting lol.

Looks like you're out there having a blast! I've always loved seeing verts out on the track.
First event. No cage in a vert. Tandems. Working hand brake.
I'm so confused.
Status: Someone put glitter in my oil. Wait. Why's all my oil outside the engine? What's that knocking?
We're OK to run cageless BMW verts here in singles, but sure as hell not in tandem. Maybe it was because of the low track speed?
Side note our last event was on a banked nascar track and there was a kid there in an E36 vert. Mid run for no reason it decided it didn't like the bank and blew the rollover protection out.
Lol If you go fast enough on a bank, the G forces DOWN cause those sensors to go off. The car thinks you're rolling over.

Please get a cage and a real bucket seat.

Got some work done on the car this winter. Previous owner hacked up the factory audio system and wiring, daisy chained after market speakers together, so that needed to be sorted and cleaned up.

Found that the heater core / hvac unit was shattered and destroyed. The car wasn't blowing heat, took the windshield cowl off and opened up the area where the fans were for hvac and found the damage. So a junkyard unit was sourced and swapped in.

Put an 8" sub in the car to go with the new component speakers that were installed.

Jeez, who hosts events that let you do road course tandems with no cage?
Car looks great though, I'm always a sucker for a full interior drift car. It was just too tempting to lose the weight for me!
Just curious - why would you do this to an M3? It's one thing to go drift it - it's another to actually start ripping it apart. By the time you're done with this, it's not gonna be any different than any other gutted E36 with an S52 - and won't be worth any more either.
Why not? M3s aren't special unicorns. They sold a metric ton of M3s. Not vert M3s but the chassis is the same anyway. If you wanna dirt rally a ferrari, go for it.

Gutted? The car has full interior lol, if anything this car was saved. It was a neglected basket case with little of anything left functional, the only saving grace being a rust free Florida chassis found in New England. I've replaced or upgraded almost every component on the car at this point, even restoring the trashed interior. The car was in really bad shape when I bought it, even worse once I got into it and discovered how neglected and how poorly any work the previous owners had done to the car.
