    735 M30 spluttering - solved

Hi all, recently my car has started rough idling and hesitating, misfiring on lower revs. This smooths out as the revs and speed increases. I understand there could be a number of causes but where is the best place to start? I have diagnostic software on a laptop with the correct leads, would this give me any useful information?

well, a diagnostic check with a laptop is the fastest and easiest to see if you have some faults stored. Do it and report back.

Well for the future, these engines are pretty bullet proof, usual suspects are

    - Spark plugs
    - Spark plug wires
    - Distributer and rotor
    - Crankshaft Position Sensor CPS

Cheers for the links. I'm getting no where with the software. Funny thing is that the car is now fine. I get no washer spray when I pull back on the stalk only when I push in for th super wash. This is when the car started spluttering. Further investigating shows this was not just a coincidence (can't add pic from my phone) turns out I've got washer fluid leaking behind the bonnet sound deadening straight onto the engine.

The you have to remove the complete sound deadening mat from the bonnet, a lot of plastic pins to be removed, just did that last week on a spare bonnet which I gave to a friend and I brought it to the paint shop, so I stripped all parts. The washer nozzle comes out from inside, there is a plastic clip which you have to push and then you can push the nozzle out. Or try it like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls7dsPUQee8
But if it leaks, you have to check the hoses.
Here you can see the tabs on the nozzles http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/ext...d_nozzles.html

I managed to fix the leak quite quickly, the hose had come off from the jet nozzle. Running sweet now.
