My 325i was leaking copious amounts of engine oil for quite awhile. My son was free for awhile so we decided to see if we could fix the leak. The oil was coming from the back of engine. Research indicated oil pan gasket or rear main. We decided to do the oil pan first as probably the easier option. In trying to drop the pan, we disconnected the motor mounts and jacked the front of the engine up using A/C bracket. This was not quite high enough so we lowered the steering rack - still no go. Then we placed a jack under rear bell housing and jacked until the engine was as high as it could go. That worked - no need to remove oil pump or require a special bracket over top of engine. Put new gasket on and put all back together. That fixed the leak!
cool.
No e30s again.
Good stuff!

I dropped the oil pump when I did mine, it was not hard and kind of good because it allows you to check the mesh filter in the bottom of the pump. Just make sure you torque it back up properly and are careful of oil in the bolt holes messing with the torque spec because you don't want the pump dropping into the pan when you are driving along the road.
