    Hardtop retrofit kit

So, just out of curiosity. Has anyone fabricated brackets to avoid having to pay $300 for the BMW retrofit kit. In my search it seems these kits were only ~$100 years ago, but now the cheapest I can find is in the high 200s. In reality, I am not really concerned about the wiring for the dome and defrost. On another note, the brackets for the e46 kit look identical, and that kit is only $120.

Just having a hard time giving up $300 for two brackets and some wire.

I did it last year. Searched far and wide. Ended up paying the 275. Don’t think I would mess with anything aside from the factory kit even if it is really only a few bucks worth of parts

The brackets are getting tough to find. I only have one extra set right now and they go with the hardtop when it sells.

Has anyone ever put the E46 and E36 brackets together and looked to see if they can be modified? I have my set I haven't installed yet but would have no idea where to get a set for the 46.

Sorry to revive this, I might be able to get the cast metal to be reproduced. I'm working with a buddy to get it CAD-ed.

I don't typically come on the forums a lot and let me know if you're interested. I may do a first run for myself and see how it goes.

I was able to find the brackets on ECS Tuning for $100/piece, left and right side. Here are all the parts for a total of $236 vs $330+

    ^^

That does not include the two electrical connections that go on the brackets. That will make the total sum $300+

You need these if you want the C-pillar lights/window heater to work.
