The mirror broke. I attached some pictures. I wonder if I can buy a replacement mirror (also in picture) from Ebay and snap it on? I see the middle piece (red circled) of the backing plate is also broken. Do I really need it for the mirror to stay in place?

Yes mirror glass can be purchased...but from your pics...it looks like you have the auto dimming mirror glass. You can replace with a lesser mirror (plain or heated without the EC/auto dim feature)...but that's your call.
You can see in the removal instructions below how the mirror glass mounts to the round mounting disc behind the glass. If that broke off, then yes...you'll need to fix it before the mirror glass can be mounted.

The mirror drive motor appears to be damaged, the new glass isn't going to properly attach to it. The drive motor should look more like this:
If you look at the back of a mirror (image below) you'll notice how it attaches to the drive plate.
You can easily source these replacement parts but it may be more cost-effective to source a complete mirror assembly from a recycler.
