    Progress

    Good afternoon, Productive day on my 94 840

    -a new drivers side seat switch restores functionality of the tele/telescopic wheel. Still have reversed polarity when I use the switches straight way, when I activate the memory, they work as they should. Next weekend I’ll take a look and see if anything is burnt inside the module.

    -the stuck passenger seat is out. What a pain to remove the middle backside bolt with the seat refusing to move. A combination of a torx bit with a 8mm ratcheting wrench fixed that, discovered two problems;
    a pen was jammed in the mechanism inhibiting forward/rear and back rest tilt. Removal of the offending Bic fixed that. The lift mechanism is inoperative due to frayed cables. Seat motor works fine and the lifting transmission also works well. Discovered the cable comes out of its casing and looks like an old ford speedo cable (also restoring a 69 Mach 1). So, the plan is to order a replacement speedo cable , cleanly cut it to make 2 29 inch segments and insert in the sleeve. This should fix this.

    -with the seats removed, took the time to shampoo the carpet and leave a stain absorbing powder which will be vacuumed tomorrow. Also cleaned the rear seat leather and reinstalled. As an aside, it sat in the back seat with front seat out, wow...it’s tight. Couldn’t even sit up straight. It’s tight even for a kid!

    -for electrical troubleshooting on the seats, an old motor cycle battery came in handy, allowing me to test motors without lugging the seat in and out of the car.

    Good day.

    p.s. Try as I might, I cannot get these photos to flip.

    You may want to consider contacting Paul Brill alias "The Seat Guru". He has specially manufactured seat cables for up-down that are not only longer, but are right/left (cable twist reversed) so the dreaded "seat twist" never happens again. I replaced both my seat cables with his cables and have been super happy with that decision. I was also impressed with his knowledge and installation instructions. And, he's a great guy!
