^ Coolant temp sensor and sender have different connector colors. Blue goes to DME, black to the cluster.
Shogun, thank you again for the links: I will go ahead and tackle the fuel sender problem. I'll keep you guys posted.
Was the vendor of the defective new parts helpful for the returns?
Yes, the vendor has replaced the defective parts without any problem at all: for the first defective visco fan they sent me another one, same make and model....for the second defective fan I was reimbursed. I just threw away the defective temperature sensor.
I just read an interesting article on a German E34 forum, the temp gauge sometimes went from 12 o'clock to red within minutes. So the car owner panicked a bit and threw parts into the car one after the other and nothing helped: new radiator, new temp sensor, new water pump, new thermostat, several times bleeding the system etc pp.
In the end it turned out that one of the 2 ground/mass points X490 close to the steering column had a lose nut and all the wires there sometimes had contact and sometimes not. He re-tightened the nut and had good chassis ground again, all problems solved

I have an overheating issue as well on my 88 735i that I turned turbo. I have been reading on several different forums for bimmers. There is guy saying he changed his pump pully from the 140 mm to 110mm v belt pully and it solved his overheating issue. I haven't tried it yet due to not having a machine shop close by. But u could try that.
