    Swapping to stock from coilovers

    2000 540I
I have a bilstein coilover setup. Its a little harsh and wanted to go back to "stockish"
bavauto is literally a 15 minute drive from work. their sport springs are $100
I need struts and all the associated hardware.

any recommendations on brand and models?

I'd go with the OE Bilstein B4s - excellent value and solid performance.

are those Eibach springs? either way, if youre not using stock springs (Bilstein b6) go with Bilstein b8.
I cant recommend the b4 if youre on lowering springs, as these will perhaps last you 10000 miles till theyre worn out or broken again

I would get the OE Sachs struts and shocks.
    I prefer Koni's twin-tube shock/strut design over Bilstein's mono tube design.
Bilsteins just ride horribly on the E39, plain and simple.

Good input, gives me a place to read and review, and hopefully make a decent informed decision.

Only down side, if it rides that much nicer I might lose the car to the wife.

Bilstein B4’s are OEM style dampers, should be fine. They should also work well with the mild Eibach springs.

I’d add that Bilsteins work on the E39, I run a B12 kit on my 03 M sport, it’s firm and not harsh. It rides a lot like my neighbor’s X5 M sport.
