Electric Fan Question

Lately every time I start the car ('04 325ci cpe) it seems that the electric fan comes on right away...the car isn't even to operating temp and the fan is going. It is pretty loud too, I thought there were two speeds to the fan, mine seems to only have one speed high/loud. (Is this a problem?)
I'm having both the driver and passenger airbags replaced (under the Toccata recall) maybe I can ask that they do a diagnostic check

The relay might be bad causing a short or the sensor could be bad also. unplug it, if the fan stays on it more than likely is the relay. Short the harness for the sensor, if the fan comes on your sensor is bad.

The fan controller unit is what usually goes bad on these cars.
