No, I wouldn't bother with that.

What you can use is INPA as you already have a cable on it's way.

    Peake is ancient.

Windows laptop with INPA is the best bang for the buck... once you understand that it is an engineering program and it's not a end-user product. But that just means it's very powerful.

+1 . The Peake thing was nonsense when it was born....like anything else that comes with a paper chart to translate.

I haven't done anything els to engine recently to try to start again. After testing the signal from the crank sensor and getting desirable results. I have left the battery connected instead of disconnected, My new toy gets here today(that cable) and can't wait to go look inside.

Just installed INPA on to my computer and having a missing file error when trying to use "inpaload"

    "SYS-0005: Objective file not found"

When I open inpa and go to information all the directorys are pointing to the right spot

I definitely lack of windows experience as well, been a mac user all my life unfortunately.

Alright so inpa "works" on my computer. At this point I don't know if it's the program or cars DME. I keep getting the error code "data transmission failed" if I'm connected to the car or not. Both dots will be black when the car is turned on, and off when the car is off. Here's the strange part.

I was looking for a audible test inside inpa, so I went to activate. I can activate all my injectors individually and hear them clicking and coming on, same goes for my idle control valve I can hear that on and off too. The light on the cable will blink periodically.

I still can not see things like coolant temp or even the voltage of the battery in inpa. No analog values At all can be seen, I am only using the single K line that comes from the DME, not two wires because that be ads.

The OBD craftsman scan tool still picks up the coolant temp, throttle positions, and can connect to the cars DME without a hiccup.

Overall im still stuck on the question, is my DME fried or stuck in "stupid mode"??

Install Teamviewer program (free program that lets me remote into your computer, no signup needed) on the win8 laptop you have and PM me the ID and password under the "Allow remote control" area and I can check for a few things as to why it's not communicating correctly.

Your car shouldn't have ADS at all (ADS = L-line diagnostics, pin 15 of the 20 pin port.) Just dual k- lines, which may have been slightly disturbed now.

Post a pic of your cable?

OH. Forgot. Did you set the latency to 1 or 2 milliseconds, as in my Connection Troubleshoot pdf? That can help a lot with communication issues.

What errors come up in the MS42 when you go to Error memory? That's the most important right now, to see if EWS is blocking ignition.

This thread has a lot of views, I'm not going anywhere and I'll post the solution and fix once I get it. Just doing a lot of trouble shooting and trying to connect to my DME. Unfortunately I'm more then likely going to need a new DME flashed for no ews. It's still a no spark situation so it's always possible the two got out of line or I fried a IC chip. I still have no input from the cranksensor and no RPMS showing up but inpa has not been a help to me at alll for data like this. Make sure you have a battery tender/charger hooked up to the car as well, I had mine on everytime I tried to connect inpa to the dme

I did a audible test within the inpa that is having connection issues. I was able to fire everyone of my injectors and hear each one turn on. I was able to open my idle control valve and physically hear it. Even my DISA valve was able to open and close through inpa, inpa gave me a error message every screen I load or data i try to bring up.
Im going to have another BMW to connect to tonight, my buddys e65. Because in inpa I get these errors everytime i try to load a value or error code or anything at all past the chassis selection and then the control unit selection.

    "IFH-0003 error #13

Request control unit MS420DS0 not found"

Inpa was verified a good install by a pro as well.

    This will be fixed soon.

So...I fried my DME. Engine is up and running now.

Lesson learned, dont roll up power windows without the proper circuit.

Massive thanks to - for the new DME and helping me though all this. Couldn't of done it without you.

As well, I'd like to thank everyone on bimmerfourms who contributed to this thread. Input is always great
