I have a 100% manual vert, and somehow the cable that attaches to the release that looks like a door handle behind the drivers seat came undone. It's S shaped and I can't seem to put it back in. Maybe it goes thru both holes of the door handle? Anyone has any idea ? I tried just passing it all the way thru but it came out instantly. Before I put some epoxy or other things to hold it, I wanted to try to do it the right way.
Thanks
release the cable from the other end so you have some free play to pull the cable forward to install.
Thanks I will do that . But I also want to know how to wire it into the handle . When I put just the end of the hook , it seems loose and can fall out. Do I feed the entire metal hook thru the metal hole in the handle ? Or half of it etc? Or maybe I need to just put the tip in the hole and tighten /adjust it ?
Thanks
You just fish half the s through the hole. The cable should be tight enough where the S cannot fall out. if it is falling out then the sheath part of the cable may be damaged or not secure. You may want to remove the handle and take a look behind it.
Look at this diagram. It's not exact what will give you some insight

The cable goes through the hole like above. The piece with the hole in it is red, the cable is black

Thanks. I see you are from BR. cool, i'm a lil west in Lafayette.
I am finally going to attempt fixing this issue, as I want to put a new soft top & part of doing that is fixing this cable so the top can be put up and down. Right now it is in permanent up (the cable seems to snap)
if anyone is reading this, I wanted to make sure the cable I need is BMW #51258164853 bowden cable . There are 2 cables on the diagram "66 6" posted , 13 and 11, and seems 11 is shorter and goes to the top, and 13 is longer and goes to the handle.
The issue was it doesn't show the "s" hook at the end of the cable in the diagram that I see on the one currently (snapped, fell) in the car oem.
Thanks again all!
