If it's a 404 it's non-ews
The manual 404 dme will use a silver label 404 dme. So you will need both, the chip and dme from a 94 production 540i6. I have copies of these stock chips, but you need the dme to match it.
That chip will not work in the common black label 404 dme.
484 dme I have plenty of stock chip reads/files for, but issue is ews2 delete is not just cutting pin 66, but bypassing the EWS in the DME as well or it will not star
Performance Tuning and EWS Delete for MSS52/MSS54/MSS54HP/MS41/MS42/MS43/ME7.2/M5.2
Virgnize DME service available to unlock DME to sync to another vehicle on EWS3 vehicles 98+. M5.2.1, M7.2, MS42, MS43, MS45, ME9.2 and more.
Easiest way to contact me is to send me a message on my facebook page "DUDMD Tuning"
I now have 3 different dme options on hand
Black label 404
silver label 404
Silver label 484
DUDMD - I spent about an hour on the phone with Dinan , and they've mentioned that another way to go is to read the stock automatic dme and modify the pcu/ bcu codes from automatic to manual ? They've made it sound like this is a very common option folks that do automatic to manual swaps on 740/840 cars have gone through to eliminate the canbus/trans codes . This would be done via gt1 , autologic or older version of another app the name escapes me right now .
Are you familiar with this process ?

Sounds like you've already got a manual 404 dme, that silver label. What's the last 7 of the VIN to verify?
Met up with and read the 404DME 540i/6 chip from Papa T. Reviewing and comparing between auto versions of the chips, many more changes between the two then one would think. Really thankful to have this tune now to start building on.
For those who can/want to read the code here is the original, very rare, elusive and mysterious E34 540i/6 404DME .BIN as read from the O.E. chip. You can load it on your Ostrich chip emulator or burn your own copy onto chip:

Here is my tunerpro xdf for the 404:

I personally am excited to build on it and experiment on my own 540i/6.

Not to hyjack this thread but I have a few questions based upon what was said.
Will the an auto 404 DME run a 95 540i/6 after doing the physical EWS delete?
What is the differance between a silver and black label 404 DME?
Yes it will run and drive like normal. The manual transmission version of the tune has changes that the engineers probably deemed smoother or optimum for the manual.
Despite label color, always decode the vin on the dme case to find out if it came from auto or manual car. I ran my 540i/6 for awhile on a 530i/Auto tune because it was the only 404 M60 tune I could find online to load on the emulator.

Thank you so much for sharing that .bin file!
I'm attempting to put together a stock 404 DME chip from a pre-1/95 original manual 540i/6 for my 6-speed swapped e32 740il. It currently exhibits all the weird driving characteristics of using an automatic-based 404 chip in my original 404 DME, whether I use my original chip or DUDMD's tuned chip for manual software 404 cars. So I want to get an original manual chip in there and see if it fixes my issues.
I have a some genuine SST 27SF512 chips; I'm assuming what I need to do is get something like a Moates Burn2 chip reader/writer, then just load that OEM .bin file to the chip using the correct chip addressing 'offsets' for a 64kb file?
Edit: do you have a photo of the front of the DME you pulled that chip from showing the sticker with the software version numbers, revision date, and VIN?
