    Heat Shielding

The X5M's engine bay gets quite hot and there are a few vent and coolant hoses that fail quickly because of it. I'm replacing the vacuum pump and had to remove the original heat shield.
Would lining the inside of the heat shield with the gold reflective type help contain the heat? Or should I use another type of shielding?

I figured you guys would have some recommendations with all the cool custom turbo setups here.

Here are some pics of the stock heat shield that sits on top of the turbos and downpipes. I was thinking about trying to fit a turbo blanket over the turbos but it should also help to find additional shielding for the downpipes.

I used lava shield on my transmission tunnel and by my turbo/wg piping. Seems to work pretty well however I do not have a ton of miles on my setup.

The reflective tape won't really help much. If you want the same benefit for free, just polish the heat shield some more, but you're talking maybe a couple of percent total improvement max based on how a heat shield works (blocking most of both convection and radiation).

A better solution would be wrapping the downpipes and cats with header wrap, although it might not last long around the cats. That plus the stock heat shield would really knock down temps.

    E36 M3 Turbo, 2015 GTI,
I could see wrapping the Turbos and Pre-Cats would help some as long as you wrapped all the way around them (Might need to remove them to do so, like doing a turbo blanket on mine). As long as you can still fit the heat shield on top. Some people are saying that wrapping the turbos and DP are reducing their lives by keeping in too much heat and running them at a higher operating temp. I'm not sure I buy that.

I might need to buy some of those 12"x12" Inconel sheets. My biggest issue is underhood temperatures. Here in Savannah, it's hot all the time...My bottom mount makes so much heat that the inner fender on the passenger side is hot to the touch. I am surprised that it hasn't destroyed any rubber hoses yet (WG, Etc). Not to mention my Intake pulls air in from right there. I wish I could route in some air from the front or underneath. I won't cut the hood...I just cant...
