New to the F10 club!
I had a few questions regarding getting a proper winter setup for my 2014 f10 m-sport! I was trying to get a good idea of what sizes to avoid when putting wheels this car. My idea right now is to run some old 17's from an older 5-series since my commute can be a little crazy some days from Denver. Any advice would be much appreciated!
I can’t recommend a size for your specific vehicle but the general rule is that the narrower a tire the better it performs in snow. A 195/55/17 will be better than a 225/45/17 in snow but obviously the tire type plays the biggest role. Get a set of Nokia’s hakkapeliitta and crush winter. Most have never heard about this tire but it out performs blizzaks usually and is tried and true as the worlds northern most tire manufacturer. They are based in Finland and I’d venture a guess that if anybody knows about snow it’s the Finnish/Norwegian people
You can run down to a 17 on some F10 models, which F10 do you have?
That being said check out tire prices for 18s vs 17s, with most new cars coming with the taller wheels I've found it cheaper to go with 18, and even 19s inch tires in some cases, over the smaller tire size.
As for tire brads, here in Ohio, I run Michelin Alpin PA4s. They are a "performance" based snow tire, but do a fantastic job when the snow starts stacking up on the roads get icy. For wheel options, if you lean towards 18s (or 19s) check out the offerings from Alzor from now until 10/11/2017 they are 25% off (buy 3 get 1 free), and make for great winter wheels (that look good to boot!).
