awesome thanks again
just an update: I decided as far as the engine goes is not to do the rear main seal or the intake manifold gasket.
I am replacing oil pan gasket oil sump tube o-ring, OFHG with genuine BMW parts.
Vanos seal kit from beisan, valve cover gasket and rubber grommets Elring.
a few breather and coolant hoses, radiator and AC condenser, expansion tank had a 2012 date had been replaced before. new starter, belts, pulleys and all fluids and filters since the engine has less than 100k and the car and tranny have 156k I figure that will need attention before the engine. It has the cold weather ccv apparatus look good. just get it back in the car and see how it runs. and any thing that comes up can be addressed without removing engine. also replacing right side engine mount front diff seal and orings exhaust manifold gaskets and studs and nuts, transfer case mount, tranny filter/pan gasket. new drave shaft lock nuts cabin filter and wiper blades. I guess some other odss and ends washers and gaskets too. I was tempted to take off intake manifold but Really think it could go another 50k the way it is. feel free to chime in four expertise has been greatly appreciated.
Just to clarify new nissans radiator and AC condenser. The Behr expansion tank had been replaced in 2012

Sounds like this 330xi is about to have a good life.
I think it would be wise to replace the intake gaskets and plastic coolant pipe that is under the intake. It's much easier to do now.

hmm Thats why I asked you guys I don't have any experience at all with the e46. a lot of plastic stuff. OK so I could pull the intake replace all the ccv/pcv stuff throttle body gasket and intake gasket, 2 plastic coolant pipes-- one to the head and one to water pump housing. maybe get the intake off with out removing fuel rail: just remove fuel injector wiring harness would an aftermarket intake gasket be ok? reinz/elring? or use genuine BMW? or It looks like I could replace plastic pipes without removing intake with a little finesse and leave the ccv alone? If that stuff is critical and makes sense Then I want to do it. the owner said she trust me to make the smart decisions so take off the intake and replace all critical items new while the labor is alot easier. I think the whole works is less than $400 I think the ccv kit at FCP is $185 go Vikes!! Hey Just priced every thing $280 at fcp ccv kit $185+2 pipes $77+ elring gaskets $17 The genuine BMW gasket was $63.89 why so much more elring is oem company

There are tons of aftermarket parts out there from the OEM manufacturers - some of them even come off the same tools as the factory parts. Go to the dealer only as a last resort for those few fiddly bits that aren't available elsewhere! And you'll find that armed with the part numbers (realoem.com), you can get virtually any BMW dealer part at a significantly better price from third parties such as Pelican Parts. I'm not affiliated; I just do a LOT of business with them.
I hear ya,
It is confusing. I don't mind paying extra sometimes if I know it is a better part.
even when they say oem and have the same part number as genuine is the part same quality?
one of these times I'm gonna order both and inspect them and choose which one I want to use and return the one I don't use.
